I have never participated in a more powerful moment of silence for such an incredible individual. The 116th Congress got to serve with John Lewis. Our Congress will never be the same.
John Lewis was someone whose life all Americans can take pride in. It was an honor to serve with him in Congress. My prayers are with his family.

It has been an honor to serve by my colleague of 27 years & friend of 52 years, John Lewis. We’ll carry on his legacy of ‘good trouble while remaining humble & kind remembering that the world is better because of the life & activism of John Robert Lewis.
John Lewis had a passion for justice and an indomitable courage that helped transform this nation. His presence will truly be missed in Congress and his legacy as a leading voice in the fight for racial equality will live on.

The House just paused for a moment of silence to honor our dear departed colleague and friend Representative John Lewis. The Congress feels a lot smaller today without him here and I continue to feel deeply grateful for honor of serving alongside him.
R.I.P. Congressman John Lewis. John was a civil rights icon who put his life on the line fighting for equality and subsequently represented his constituents with dignity and honor. I got to know John on our flights from Atlanta to Washington D.C. It was an honor to know him.

I thank @SanfordBishop for leading the House in honoring John Lewis with a moment of silence and a bereavement resolution today. As he said, our dear friend and beloved colleague inspired us as the Conscience of the Congress, and the world is a better place because of him.
John Lewis devoted his entire life to fighting for equality and unalienable rights. Our nation owes him our deepest gratitude and respect. We will forever remember him as one of the great America icons.
