Representative Elijah Cummings, a Democrat from Baltimore, passed away today at the age of 68. Known for his bold and fiery speech, Cummings sponsored 225 bills during his career in Congress. Most recently, he gained attention in the media for his impassioned call for impeachment of President Trump. Since 1996, Cummings has won every single election in his district as a Democrat House of Representative.
He is known for sponsoring the Presidential and Federal Records Act Amendments of 2014, which modernizes a federal record to technically include electronic documents.
He also supported the Smart Savings Act, a bill that like many others, benefited workers in America.
Nancy Pelosi tweeted, “When Chairman Elijah Cummings spoke, America listened. He pushed each and every one of his colleagues to work for a higher purpose. May we all seek to follow his example.”
