Today in Congress, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020 was discussed again, with provisions being added in, including the president now requiring Congress’ approval before authorizing military force against Iran.

Rep. Ro Khanna (D) tweeted the following:

“Thank you @SpeakerPelosi for your unwavering support in blocking funds to be used for a war with Iran without Congressional authorization. This is the most effective way to ensure Trump follows our constitution and doesnt drag us into another costly war in the Middle East.”

“My historic amendment calling for permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula PASSED. No one has done more for peace in Korea than Jimmy Carter, who showed us in his agreement with Kim Il-Sung that diplomacy is possible and helped us with this framework.”

Retweet from Rep. Andy Levin: “The House will soon vote to prevent @POTUS from taking unauthorized, reckless military action against #Iran & make clear that Congress hasnt approved an attack, per my #AUMFClarification Act. Grateful to work with @RepRoKhanna on this.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R) tweeted “The time has come for Congress to once again reassert its constitutional authority and speak decisively on matters of war and peace, and I applaud the House today for passing our amendment that ensures any military action in Iran is carried out constitutionally. @RepRoKhanna”
